Introduction:
Dell has introduced multiple series of notebook editions for serving business purpose solutions. For the first time, Dell has come up with a notebook that is solely dedicated to educational purposes and focused on assisting students from primary schools and high schools. In the new Latitude 2100 model, Dell has tried to achieve an intelligent balance between multiple factors, such as the cost, durability, robustness, compactness and so on.
Most of the features in Latitude 2100 are useful in business activities, too! Hence, we can regard it as an educational and business purpose notebook. However, most attention is given in making it more and more suitable and useful for school going children.
Look and Feel:
As stated earlier repetitively, Latitude 2100 is a notebook designed for use by high school students. Hence, the manufacturer has taken every care and precaution to maintain its durability against novice usage by the children. These efforts reflect clearly in the looks of the Latitude 2100.
The lid exteriors are covered by rubberized case for increasing grip as well as attractiveness of the notebook. Clearly, school children would be attracted by the eye-catching colors; hence Dell has launched the Latitude 2100 in a wide range of dazzling colors. Another appreciable feature in the exterior look is the optional anti-microbial keyboard. Also, at the top-center of the display lid, we can find a network activity light, which identifies any network activity such as surfing the internet. Such a provision helps teachers monitoring student’s activities in the class.
The display screen is a 10” LED-backlit with a typical screen resolution of 1024 X 576 pixels. The screen surface is kept matt rather than glossy. This is because the Dell Latitude 2100 comes with an optional touch screen feature. This feature sets up direct interaction with the users, since the users (mostly students) can directly touch the options provided in application, draw text or diagrams using fingers and so on. At the top of the display, a 1.3-megapixel webcam which is capable of capturing clear images is provided.
Finally, take a look at the touchpad and the key board. The key board is placed compactly to manage the space for the touchpad and other LED indicators. The touchpad is not very sensitive and is made robust to suit usage by children. In short, the Dell Latitude 2100 is attractive enough to capture its target customers.
Processor and Performance:
It is clearly understood by the manufacturers of Latitude 2100 that the users (which are again not older than the high school students) are going to use the system primarily for educational purposes and hence, would hardly need higher computational specifications. This model is built using Intel Atom N270 processor with 1.60 GHz of speed and 1 GB of inbuilt RAM. Default operating system is the windows 7 starter and the following higher editions.
Storage:
Dell latitude 2100 is comprises 16GB solid state drive, which ensures speedy booting of the system. Average booting time observed for latitude 2100 is 36 seconds. There is an option available for extending physical memory, as specified by the user. This extension can be up to 250 GB @ 5400 rpm.
Battery Life and Weight:
Battery life performance of the new Dell latitude 2100 is somewhat disappointing. It provides battery life that is lesser than the average battery life in this category (4 hours and 40 min). Also, the notebook is substantially heavy, in light of the fact that children would be its primary users (2.91 lbs).
Pricing:
The Dell latitude 2100 is completely focused on the educational purpose. Hence, they have tried to minimize the price as much as possible. The starting price for this model is $369, whereas the highest variant costs $458. No issues with price range!
