Kung Fu Panda: The Game Review

History

After the huge success of the movie, developers Vicarious Visions followed the recent trend of converting all successful movies into games so as to attract children of all ages to buy and play the game. This is one game, which is based on the lovable character Po, and his many adventures with the rest of the characters in the movie, namely the Furious Five and Master Shifu.

Gameplay

The game starts of course with all players controlling the bumbling panda Po, learning many special moves and fighting techniques. However, in some parts of the game, players complete tasks not as Po but as different characters. At the end of every level, players are needed to collect coins, which will not only give Po valuable health upgrades but refine his techniques of fighting as well. Along with that at the end of each level, he gets a new pair of clothes as well, if the players so chooses to change Po’s get up.

Along with all this at the end of each level, players also unlock characters like Master Shifu and each of the Furious Five who have their own skill sets and fighting techniques along with their own mini- stories. In addition to these elite fighters also unlocked are special items, objects, weapons that help in attacks against enemies.

As progress is made, Po keeps narrating the story so as to keep the players in anticipation of what to expect in the next level of the game.

Along with the single player mode there is the multiplayer mode too and as is common in many video games be it on the Mac or the PC, there are new characters and new subplots to make the whole gaming experience a whole lot more thrilling and exciting. This game is no different with the additions of characters like Nameless, the Wu sisters and the Great Gorilla. There is an extra menu when playing Kung Fu Panda and to unlock items there needs to be a collection of rare coins to be made which enhances the gamers’ playing experience.

Plot

The game obviously is a takeoff from the movie but doesn’t follow the script, as is the case with most Mac or PC related games in a bid to make it much more interesting. Po is a bumbling clumsy panda who dreams to be a great kung fu fighter but faces obstacles in the form of an evil snow leopard- Tai Lung, who in the game is joined by other evil characters like Great Gorilla and Imperial Croc gang hell bent on stealing the Jade palace’s treasure.

Personal Speak

The craze of the movie is what will attract the kiddoes to this game. If you are one of those looking for some action the bumbling way- Kung Fu Panda is the game for you!
