The Nokia X6 is a touchscreen smartphone from Nokia operating under a Symbian based platform. It is the first in line from the X- Series phones of Nokia. The phone boasts of features like Carl Zeiss 5 megapixel camera, 3G enabled video calling, large touchscreen and storage for your various media. The smartphone comes in 8GB and 16 GB models.
BODY DESIGN
The Nokia X6 is a very attractive phone with the touchscreen taking up most of the phone’s size. It looks much better than most touchscreen phones. The look of the phone is very similar to the very popular mid-range Nokia 5800, but with a few trimmings making it more elegant and ergonomically comfortable. The phone weighs about 4.3 oz and has a physical dimension of 4.4 x 2 x 0.54 inches. X6 has a 3.5 inch (diagonally) screen. Compared to the glossy sheen of the front of the phone, the back of the X6 is a let-down as it looks shoddy for a high end device like it. It has a camera in front for making video calls. The mobile phone also has a dedicated media key for quick access to music, images, web browser and videos just above the top of the screen. There are three buttons below the screen, namely for making a call, menu and ending a call. The SIM card slot is on the left hand side of the phone and is to be inserted from the outside. On the right of the phone is the dedicated camera button, volume manager and the keypad lock slider. The power button, headphone jack and the USB port are on the top of the phone.
MULTIMEDIA
This is one area where the X6 really has some strong points. The phone has 5 megapixel auto focus camera with a screen resolution of an impressive 2592 x 1944 pixels. The cherry on top feature is the use of the Carl Zeiss optics. It also has a dual LED flash. Video recording on the Nokia X6 happens at 30fps (maximum) with a decent resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The Nokia N Series digital music player is embedded on the X6 which also has very good features like playlists, selection of songs by genre, artist, album or composer. It has an 8-band graphic equalizer and bass booster too. For video playback, the device has RealPlayer. There is even a TV OUT for easy viewing. This phone supports a respectable number of formats for both audio and videos.
X6 can fully browse real web pages through its OSS web browser. There is also access to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other social networks. The phone has an integrated A-GPS receiver with already installed Ovi Maps 3.0. Ovi Music is one application in the phone which will be very popular among music lovers. This device even has a Stereo FM radio.
MEMORY
Memory size differs for the two different models of the Nokia X6. One has an internal memory of 8 GB and the other has 16GB. This massive internal memory size of the X6 is also one of its USP. There is no memory card slot here in this phone as the big size of the internal memory makes up for it.
CONNECTIVITY
The Nokia X6 has (802.11 b/g) WLAN connectivity which makes wireless connection with other devices and network very easy. This smartphone supports both 2G and 3G networks. Web browsing and logging online happens with the GPRs/EDGE class B, multislot class 32.(CHECK FONT)
X6 has the Version 2.1 Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate which is better than the standard Bluetooth version giving it an edge against other smart phones like the Xperia X8 in terms of data transfer. It also has a USB 2.0 port through which you can also recharge your phone on top of the file transfers through it. This smart phone comes with the 3.5 mm AV connector for audio and TV OUT. Using the standard 3.5 mm jack makes all the headphones compatible with the phone even if it is not a Nokia proprietary product. It also has support for Nokia OVi Suite to sync with a PC.
PERFORMANCE
When it comes to performance of a phone, the battery strength of the phone comes into question, which is pretty good for the Nokia X6. An approximate of 35 hours of music playback, 8.5 hours of talktime and 435 hours of stand-by time is pretty impressive. Although it does not have the best touchscreen, it still is quite responsive to all clicks. The user interface of the phone is OK. The on-screen buttons are sensibly sized for the fingertips. All in all, the Nokia X6 is a good media phone taking into consideration its storage size, media player, web browser and connectivity.
VERDICT
The X6 does not have the biggest touchscreen or the best touchscreen features. The virtual QWERTY keyboard has a high error rate. But if you want a phone with a decent quality screen that gives you free navigation and a phone that can also double up as a camera and an MP3 player, the Nokia X6 is perfect for you. You can own an 8GB model for $324 and the 16GB one for $358.
