Review of JVC Picsio GC-FM1

JVC comes up with a new camcorder in form of the Picsio GC-FM 1. The camcorder is lightweight as well as compact in size. This camcorder cames in three colors. They are black, purple and blue. The plastic finishing gives it a sparkling look. This makes it attractive and users are bound to take a look at it. There is a silver covering on one side of the camcorder. Beneath the covering, the user finds ports for mini HDMI, USB and composite videos. There is a macro switch on the other side of the camcorder. On the bottom side, one can see the location of hand strap connector, socket for tripod and opening for memory card and battery.

The Picsio from JVC has 2 inch LCD screen on the rear side. There are a lot of buttons near the LCD panel. The buttons are flat and they are slow in response. The user has to wait after pressing the button to find whether it is registered or not. This JVC model has a four way switch that helps in controlling the digital zoom. The user needs to press it hard so that some functioning starts. The model has a built-in flash and mic. The camcorder has one Lithium battery.

Let’s take a look at the JVC Picsio GC-FM1:

The images and videos are hard to view on LCD in sunlight. There are other controls in form of switches for functions like delete, playback, record, video toggle, etc. The camcorder comes with software named Pixela MediaBrowser LE. This software helps the users in trimming the videos, uploading them on YouTube, downloading and browsing video clips. The options like adjusting volume, brightness and contrast are not present in this software. The features in this software are limited so the user cannot upload images and video to sites Face book, My Space, etc. The software operates on Windows only.

The 8 mega pixel CMOS sensor supports full HD videos and movies. The video files are recorded at good pace and encoding is done in quick time. The video quality of the FM1 is really good and sharp. The audio is loud and bearable to human ear. The outdoor videos look really bright but indoor videos are bit soft. The electronic image stabilization works well. The image quality is quite average but better than camera phone snaps. The images have saturated look with contrast. The video quality is impressive but there can be improvements in picture quality.

The JVC Picsio has good features and video quality but the design and the software support are not up to the mark. The JVC camcorder is priced at $ 129.00. The camcorder comes at an affordable price but the looks matter in these days. The manual controls take time to respond and have to be pressed hard. The user will get better options in the market at this price. The garish looks and  impressive software are two things that pull down the JVC Picsio from the user’s mind.
