Sennheiser PXC 300 Review

Sennheiser is arguably one of the best when it comes to audio equipment all over the world. They have a stronghold in many spheres of the audio world itself. One of them is their noise-cancelling headphone range – the PXC. The Sennheiser PXC300 is fully loaded over and about the same account.

The earpieces are not the usual size and can hardly cover the entire ear. They are a 1.75 inches in diameter. This is relatively small for an on-ear headphone. However, sound quality is not compromised because of the same. The design in fact, has been proven to be very durable. The leatherette used over the earpieces, successfully block out most of the noise causing agents. The leathering, however, is gentle and does not affect one much even in the summer heat. However, it can get soggy if used for a very long period of time. Another point to be noted is that the pair being noise-cancelling headphones seems to have an extra force on the ears of the listener. This is not a very serious issue but for those listeners who have a sensitive ear, it might just be.

With this launch, Sennheiser has claimed that it has used the latest NoiseGaurd Advance system to simply guard you against external noise. However, inherently so, very low level noises could be heard in the background. As claimed, the PXC 300 reduces the susceptibility to the hindrance that might occur from cell phones and any other radio-frequency sources.

The noise-cancelling factor remains active as long as two AAA batteries are functional. Once that dies, you can listen to your audio, but without any noise cancellation. This battery along with the circuitry details of the noise cancellation system are housed in a 5.25-inch black plastic tube, which has been fitted with a metal belt clip. Ideally, the batteries are supposed to provide 80 hours of avoidance of external noise. A running cable, 4.5 feet in length, connects the jack port with the ear cups of the headphone. This port is fitted with a 3.5 mm stereo plug, which can be hooked up with any portable player. Included in the package is a 6.3 mm adapter for home use.

Without the noise cancelation on, the headphones do not perfect the idea of cutting down the noise, as any fully rounded ear cups headphones would be able to do. However, with it on, and the midrange and treble on a higher power than before (which happens automatically somehow) the noise cancellation effect is much better and actually works. The sound quality was about average, with a powerful bass. The bass however lacked oomph and detailing.

For the price that one pays (a near about $155), the noise cancelling effect is perfect. However, if you are looking for more detailing and more power, it would be better to look for another pair that suit your need better.
