The PXC series is a very valuable one for those who travel frequently. Noise cancelling headphones are after all, the life of such people. The Sennheiser PXC310 headset comes in two distinct forms – one with Bluetooth connectivity and the other one without it. Here we cover the standard version – that is the one without Bluetooth Connectivity.
These headphones can actually be considered ‘mini-headphones’ as they do not cover the entire ear like any normal on ear headphone would. It, in fact, covers a part of the ear, which for many proves to be more comfortable.
The inner lining of the pair is of leatherette. The material is such that the headphones can be used over a period of time without feeling any extra warmth. These, headphones thus do not make you sweat excessively, even after you wear them for a long duration of time.
All the controls of the headphones and its noise cancelling circuitry are on the outer side of the right ear cup. Out of the many buttons that are present – the center one powers the noise cancellation mode. The other buttons control audio, which is inclusive of the volume (up and down) and for track selection (left and right). The left ear cup does not look empty, though. It houses a small battery pack, which contains a Lithium polymer battery. It is useful when a successful activation of the noise cancellation feature is required.
The PXC310 is foldable. The flaps of the ear cups can be folded inwards and can be made to form a very small package, which can be easily carried around with your luggage and travel gear. The cable length is not much of a hindrance, as it is not too long, being 1.4 meters in length. The headphones come with a 6.35 stereo and a double 3.5 mm adapter for all practical purposes.
Being a noise cancellation headphone, it is obvious that there is that one feature which controls the same. Sennheiser uses NoiseGuard 2.0, which they believe, cuts off environmental sound by 90%. This proves best on flights and on noisy railway and subway platforms. A noisy office can also be sorted using the same. However, the most interesting and innovative concept that these pair utilize is that of – TalkThrough. Using this feature, one specific sound from the environment is allowed to pass the noise cancellation barrier.
Music through this pair sounds good. There is an applaudable mixture of sounds and frequencies on the same with the midranges sounding very precise. The bass is in tune but not over the top.
Overall, this pair seems good enough. The music is good. The noise cancellation is even better.
