History
This is the fourth game released in the fantasy series Warcraft, and with 11.5 million monthly subscriptions, it holds the official Guinness World record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers in April ’08 holding up to 62% of the subscriber’s in the market.
Gameplay
In this game players control an avatar in the first or third person mode exploring the surroundings and fighting monsters whilst interacting with non-playing members, completing quests etc. WOW needs subscription on a regular basis without which players can’t play the game.
After the subscription, there are servers or realms that the player needs to connect. There are four types of realms that the players can choose from:
New characters can be made by players in any realm but only after paying a fee. Like the previous games in the Warcraft series, for creating new characters, the choice is between the opposing teams of the Alliance and Horde. Characters from the opposing teams can perform basic communication, but only members from a specific team can perform additional tasks like to speak, email, group, and share guilds. The player has to select a new character’s race, such as Orcs or the Trolls and the Horde or Humans or Dwarves for the Alliance. Players also have to select the class for their particular character, with mages, warriors and priests to choose from.
As characters evolve, they gain various skills and additional talents, which enables the player to define specific abilities of every single character. Advanced skills can also be learnt in the process, which includes tailoring, blacksmithing, mining etc. There are also three secondary skills namely cooking, fishing and first aid. The player also gets to learn and use these skills as per the need of the hour. Much of World of Warcraft play involves ‘quests’. These quests are usually available from Non Playing Characters. After completing quests some rewards the player get are a combination of experience points, items, and in-game money. Quests, like real life are opportunities for the characters to learn additional abilities and skills, and explore dark areas.
Personal Speak
This type of a game is high on visual graphics and promises to be a good game only if the buyer likes fantasy thrills and if not, sorry then the play was not meant for you. Keep clear unless you are the types who is thrilled at the mention of fantasy games.
