The Water Pebble is a brainchild of a man called Paul Priestman from the design company Priestmangoode. It is a timing-based gadget that literally monitors how long you are taking to have your shower and it flashes its red light to indicate that it is about time to get out of it. However, that is not all, it is a cut above your normal timing gadgets because it memorizes how long you were in the shower the very last time you had one. It is on the basis of these earlier timing records that the water pebble minimizes the amount of water you use for your shower the next time. It does this by reducing the time it takes to originally flash the red light.

Paul Priestman, the inventor states that his inspiration to come up with such a wonderful gadget was actually a note on a bathroom door of a hotel, which said, ‘Please use water sparingly’.

The fundamental question now is how does water pebble know when you are exceeding your water limits? This gadget keeps a check on the water going the plug hole/drain. It uses your very first shower with it as its benchmark.

Water pebble works with three colors – red, yellow and green. Yes, exactly like there are in a traffic light. The concept too is the same. The green light signifies the start of your shower, while the yellow/amber lets you know that you are through halfway and are nearing your limit. And the red, just like in a traffic light – it signifies that it’s time to STOP!

This device is more about motivation and encouragement to use water efficiently and that red light will surely make you guilty to have exceeded the bar and make you not do it the next time.

All you need to do is put this gadget near the plughole. Then have your shower but keep your eyes open to the color flashing on this device. This device has a battery that would last for as long as six months with its minimum life being four months. It comes cheap at about 5 bucks with postage.
